I Want to See You Move Forward, Expand Your Reach, and Impact Lives Through Enlisting the Help of Others
The goal I’ve set for this blog is to share things Joanna and I have learned from our experiences, and to talk about developing trends that can help you no matter what context you are in as an artist. There are lots of great blogs for independent artists out there, but this blog is dedicated to those of you who are committed to promoting Jesus to the world around you. As artists promoting Christ I hope to encourage you towards an interdependent artist model as you share your gifts with the world. This is a model that more closely resembles the life of a missionary than a rock star. This mindset is quite a bit different than the business of independent artistry or even the Christian music industry in many ways, but the life of an interdependent artist will also have some similarities. I’ll be talking more about these similarities and differences in other blog posts.
I’m going to be focusing on artists who have something great to offer. There is hope for those of us who aren’t likely candidates for superstardom. Whether you are a talented stay at home mom who loves to write and share songs but has no intention of ever hitting the road on tour, or a young artist ready to travel anywhere for a gig, I hope these posts will help you move forward, expand your reach, impact lives, and help you find ways to support your family partially or fully as an interdependent artist. Here are some key topics I’ll be covering ahead.
- Making professional quality recordings
- Building revenue streams that will supplement your performance income
- Types of concert venues to consider
- Forming a consistent social media presence
- Making a part to full-time income as a music artist when touring isn’t an option
- Crowdfunding and support raising
- Communicating with your followers (I don’t like the term fan as you can tell)
- Emotional, physical, and spiritual issues that we creative types deal with
My first blog topic will be finding and securing places to share your music. My wife and I are always in process on this topic, so I will also be sharing other helpful links as we go.
